WELCOME TO THE ART DEPARTMENT
Mr D Hampson leader of learning
Mr C Fairbairn
Art is a means of communication, recording and expressing oneself as an alternative to the spoken word. It is continually changing and developing, looking for new ways of expressing itself, seeking to innovate and reflect itself.
In Key Stage Three it is hoped that students will develop a visual awareness of colour and shape; that they will acquire an intimate knowledge of their surroundings developing their drawing and painting skills; that they will acquire and develop skills in a three dimensional manner. At the same time they will develop an understanding of, and knowledge of Art and Artists, relating to their work. A knowledge of design work applied in a practical manner, will further develop their artistic education.
Much, if not all of the work in Key Stage Four is oriented towards the G.C.S.E. Examination. Candidates are required to work in at least two of the areas listed below. They may explore overlapping areas and combinations of areas.
-
Fine Art
-
Graphic Design
-
Textiles
-
Three Dimensional Design
-
Photography
Work is normally assessed around Easter in Year 11. Included in this assessment is all the work produced during the two years, including homework. The other component is work produced during ‘examination’ conditions, which is the ten hour Controlled test. Coursework accounts for 60% of the final grade with the Controlled test accounting for the remaining 40%.
