As a core subject in the National Curriculum Mathematics is compulsory from year 7 - 11 for all students. Students in year 7 will commence study based on the New Key Stage 3 Framework, levels 3 – 6 and the Numeracy Strategy.
At the end of Year 9 students take Key Stage 3 Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) and would normally be expected to attain between levels 3 to 8.
In Years 10 and 11, students study GCSE Mathematics achieving a grade from A*-G or Entry Level Certification.
Upon arrival in Year 7, Key Stage 2 results are used to place students in ability sets in which progress is continually monitored. Throughout the lower school, further assessments occur at the end of each module and set changes take place if necessary. Reports are then issued in accordance with school policy.
Homework is set on a weekly basis and students are expected to provide themselves with basic Mathematics equipment and an arithmetic calculator. |
