WELCOME TO THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Music Teachers Miss C. Burdett and Mr. W. Mace
Listening, composing and performing are the main ingredients of the music course throughout the school.
In the lower school (Years 7-9) students are taught basic music principles and everyone is given the opportunity to play an instrument, some often playing several. Tuition is available through the Kirklees Music Service in Guitar, Keyboard, Piano, Drums, Woodwind, Brass and String instruments and a purchasing scheme is encouraged for those students wishing to partake. Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 can choose to follow a G.C.S.E. Music course with the AQA. which has a strong emphasis on practical work.
The Music Department has three practice rooms, which are available during lunchtimes and after school for personal use. Keyboard, Choir, Steel Pans, Guitar and Ensemble Groups take place and students wishing to follow written examinations can attend weekly theory classes.
The more advanced students are encouraged to take part in the Kirklees Youth Orchestras, bands and choirs. From the earliest weeks in school students are encouraged to take an active part in Music. The department is equipped with a variety of instruments plus electronic keyboards. |
