In the lower school, Year 7 is taught in a way that allows students to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through many varied activities. We aim to build on previous skills and apply these in a broad range of activities.
In Year 8, we have provided three distinct pathways for students to follow. Students are given option choices for their pathways of Aesthetics, Games and Adventure. Guided choice for students allows them to experience all aspects of the curriculum whilst giving them the opportunity to specialise in sports that they enjoy.
In year 9, the pathways continue and we allow students a choice between individual activities and team games. By providing these structured pathways we aim to develop all round physical, mental and social skills
Activities undertaken include Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Netball, Gymnastics, Problem Solving, Badminton, Hockey, Rounders, Rugby, Soccer, Tennis and Young Leaders Award. Through the adventure pathways we are able to offer sailing, kayaking and orienteering at our base at Scammonden reservoir. We are able to use the Huddersfield Sports Centre and local clubs aswell as our extensive in school facilities.
In the Upper School (Years 10 & 11), the GCSE Physical Education programme is designed to further develop the skills taught in Key Stage 3 whilst also opening up opportunities to follow courses of a more vocational nature such as the Junior Sports Leader Award.
